Arias is fighting the verdict and has appealed her case, claiming, in part, prosecutorial misconduct. The state denied the claim, saying Jodi Arias got a fair trial.

Alexander, a devout Mormon, was 29 when he met Arias at a conference. There was an immediate attraction, and his brother says Jodi was the first non-Mormon Travis had dated.

Alexander’s friends said his relationship became strained in part because he and Arias were having premarital sex, which went against his Mormon faith, and they were concerned she was too possessive.

Alexander’s friends said Arias would go through his phone, social media and emails, and that after they broke up, she moved close to him and tried to scare off his new love interest.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, who wrote a book about Arias, said the two were secretly having phone sex despite seeing other people, until an argument erupted over text and Gchat.

Police said Alexander was stabbed multiple times and shot in the head. They also found a camera in a washing machine that led them to their chief suspect.

Police found a camera in Alexander's home that contained photos of him and Arias taken the day he was killed. Police said she called them after the murder probing for information.

Arias claimed she was on her way to Utah when police say Alexander was killed. After denying she was at Travis’ home, she admitted the woman in the photos taken that day looked like her.

Prosecutors asserted Arias meticulously planned Alexander’s murder. They argued she turned off her cell phone so she could not be tracked and then stabbed him, slit his throat and shot him.

The defense painted Jodi as the victim of an abusive hypocrite who presented himself as a devout Mormon while involved in a sordid sexual affair. There was no evidence to support claims of abuse.

Arias’ story about what happened the day of Alexander’s murder changed multiple times. Arias continues to fight her conviction and has appealed her case.

After initially telling police she was nowhere near the crime scene, Arias told police she was there when two intruders murdered him and threatened to kill her family if she said anything.

Arias describes being baptized into the Mormon church by her then-boyfriend Travis Alexander, whom she was later convicted of killing.

“He was very open with how he wanted his life to be and he wanted his marriage to be, and so there would be no compromises,” Jodi Arias said in 2008 of Travis Alexander’s devout Mormon beliefs.
