Congress probably does have the power to do that. On another front one of the critical witnesses in the Mueller report, the former white house counsel don mcgahn who told Robert Mueller that the president had ordered him to get Mueller fired at the justice department and then when that didn't work the president -- that story broke and the president ordered mcgahn to lie to the public that he had ever given such an order. The house wants mcgahn in the witness chair and the president is trying to block that as well. Democrats getting aggressive, seeking information from president trump's private financial records. The president says it's a fishing expedition but the house is relying on that 124 law that allows certain chairs who write tax laws to subpoena anyone's tax returns and the law is pretty clear, it says the treasury secretary shall turn over those tax returns.
