Transcript for Man’s incredible story of going from prison to Princeton
It is thankful Thursday and the audience is always thankful when I'm on this side so they can be seen on camera. They don't get enough love over here. We have a great thriver Thursday to share with you now from my production company rock'n robin productions. I want you to meet Yusuf Dahl. His life journey took him from prison to princeton. Now he's showing how education helped turn his life around and inspired him to do the same for others. The day of my release I spent five plus years in prison and I was finally getting the chance to start over again. My desire to apply to princeton was motivated by the desire to have a greater impact. The most effective tool at our disposal to help people behind bars break this vicious cycle is education. Yusuf Dahl. Princeton just provided a tremendous education and it provided a tremendous environment to really pursue my passion and to think about how I could have a greater impact in the world. I'm incredibly fortunate. It's not lost on me the improbability of this moment. And it's something that I do not take for granted. How was school? It was good. My daughter has the same probability of going to college that I had of going to prison when I was her age. It's an incredible reversal of fortune and it's one that I thank god for every single day. A thriver to me is somebody who has made a deliberate decision to not allow their circumstances or their environment to circumscribe what they can and cannot do. If one is thoughtful and deliberate on how one works and is determined to not just stand and knock on the door for opportunity but is committed to standing there and doing whatever the hell it takes until someone opens up the door and lets them in, you can do it. So be committed. Believe in yourself because if you don't believe in yourself, no one else is going to believe in you and go get it. I love that. I love that and go get it. Hey, ladies and gentlemen, Yusuf Dahl is right here. Stand up, Yusuf. He's here in our audience. Princeton, yes. And the woman who nominated you, Lauren, who is a thriver herself, she nominated you. We are going to spend time on Facebook right after the program so everybody can get to know his story and you can see his full episode later on my Facebook page as well.
