Transcript for Thwarted kidnapper in court after attempt to grab Joe Montana’s grandchild
We begin with new details in the attempted kidnapping of Joe Montana's 9-month-old grandchild. The suspect making her first court appearance Tuesday and entering a not guilty plea and Kaylee Hartung is in malibu, California, with the latest. Good morning, Kaylee. Reporter: Good morning, Michael. She did enter that not guilty plea but her attorney says she's not trying to shy away from what she did. No clues as to why she tried to steal the baby. The woman accused of attempting to kidnap Joe Montana's granddaughter now formally charged. The judge setting bail at $200,000 calling 39-year-old sodsai Dalzell a clear danger to the public. This was an extremely violent attempt to kidnap a child. That's what's alleged here. Reporter: Dalzell pleading not guilty and her attorney said it's help not jail time she needs. We will do our best to make sure she gets the help she needs because clearly this seems to be some type of incident that was probably Onnen set by depression or drugs and she is extremely apologetic, very well concerned for the well-being of the family. Reporter: Her arrest captured on this video by a neighbor shortly after she allegedly tried to snatch the 9-month-old baby. I guess the way I describe it is lethargic, weak and she was moving slowly. Reporter: The hall of fame quarterback and his wife Jennifer were in their home when authorities say she snuck into the house and grabbed her from a playpen. The Montanas confronted her, tried to de-escalate the situation and a struggle ensued. Mrs. Montana was able to safely pry the baby out of the suspect's arms and as the suspect fled, authorities were alerted and she was soon found and arrested. The terrifying episode frightening neighbors. It is known as billionaires' beach. If convicted of the charges she could face up to eight years in state prison due back in court next month and they hope to have a therapist appointed and full medical evaluation.
