Trying to kill her after luring her into the woods. ABC's Ryan smith is here with that disturbing story. Reporter: Good morning, robin. The small community reeling from a shocking attack and the reasons behind it. Today, two 2-year-old girls behind bars, accused of the unthinkable. Stabbing their middle school classmate 19 times in the small, quiet town of waukesha, Wisconsin. It ooh es extremely disturbing as a parent and as a chief of police. Reporter: The accused were in court yesterday, formally charged as adults, with first-degree intentional homicide. ABC is not releasing their names, as well as that of the victim. Police say the victim is lucky to be alive. Thankfully the victim survi survived. The waukesha police department is saddened that this girl had to suffer through this crime. Reporter: But the details of the alleged plot against their friend, leaving police flabbergasted. Our investigation has led us to believe that the two had plotted to kill the victim for several months. Reporter: They were fascinated with a character known as the slender man. And planned the attack, believing he would reveal the himself. Friday night, invited her to a sleepover. And the next morning, lured her into the woods. The girls told police, one of them stabbed her repeatedly. The victim survived the attack. She was able to crawl out of the woods to a road, where she was discovered by a passing bicyclist and rushed to the hospital for surgery. The accused were discovered on foot several hours later. Once we located the two girls, it became apparent they were the suspects in this investigation. Reporter: The victim is still in the hospital, but in stable condition. Her attackers, girls she told police had been her best friends, in jail. Police, with a warning for O their ch have unrestricted or unmonitored internet usage.
