We have to begin, though, with this out-of-control wildfire in southern California. Now scorched more than 10,000 cheers in a matter of hours. Homes have been destroyed and people have been forced to flee. That's right, will Carr is in the fire zone this morning with the very latest on those dangerous conditions. Good morning, will. Reporter: Amy, that hillside is on fire behind me this morning. That canyon is filled with homes and this brush which is so dry it is perfect fuel for this fire. Fire crews are doing everything they can but they are getting mother nature's worst and it's all coming, of course, during the middle of a pandemic. Oh, my gosh. Reporter: Overnight the lake fire exploded after a brush fire ignited north of Los Angeles. In a matter of hours more than 10,000 apgers burned. The perfect mix of dangerous conditions creating this hellscape. Check out this fire whirl swirling through the smoke on lake Hughes. Authorities have issued mandatory evacuations leaving some unsure of what they'll have left when they return. Primary objective is to protect lives and property. Reporter: North of the Santa Clarita valley it quickly engulfed both sides of the lake, bone dry brush, low humidity and strong winds created this extreme fire behavior pushing these flame retardants dangerously close to homes in the area. Our initial reports were coming in pretty quickly. A few minutes later, update, 100 acres and grew within a couple of hours, about 6,000 acres. Right now we're a little over 10,000 acres. Reporter: That plume seen as far as Santa Monica captured on this satellite image. Now with fire crews battling from both the ground and from the air, this fire showing no signs of letting up. Over 500 firefighters assigned and we have nine helicopters, six air tankers working the fire. Reporter: This morning the air is filled with smoke here. Some of the residents who evacuated went to a local shelter but because of the pandemic have been forced to stay inside their cars and comes as we're expecting hotter temperatures the next couple of days.
