Transcript for Meghan McCain 'emotionally exhausted' from Trump's attacks of her late father
I can't believe trump is still talking about this. Oh, my god, yesterday he took his how low can I go tour to Ohio where he continued his attack on the late senator John McCain. He spoke to factory workers including a lot of veterans about his so-called involvement in McCain's funeral. Watch this. I gave them the kind of funeral that he wanted, which as president, I had to approve. I don't care about this, I didn't get thank you. That'sokay. We sent him on the way, but I wasn't a fan of John McCain. So now what we could say is now we're all set. I don't think I have to answer that question, but the press keeps -- what do you think of McCain? What do you think? Not my kind of guy, but some people like him and I think that's great. As we've been saying all week, facts do matter and his claim about having to approve the McCain funeral is a flatout lie. I'm glad the crowd seemed pretty silent. You notice they were not screaming and giving him support like they usually do, but why are so many Republicans silent about this too? Why are these cowards siding with a draft dodger over a war hero? I ask this panel? Can I speak first so I can get it out of the way, Ana? Sure. Thank you. I don't like coming here every day and having to do this. It's extremely emotionally exhausting. I'm not the only child in my family. I have six brothers and sisters, and my little sister Bridget for the first time ever has decided that she wants to speak out. She's very, very private. That's her right there. Anyone who knows anything about political history could probably surmise why she's chosen to lead a very private life but she felt inclined to say and tweet this. Mr. Trump, everyone doesn't have to agree with my dad or like him, but I do ask that you be decent and respectful. If you can't do those two things, be mindful. We only said good-bye to him almost seven months ago. Even if you were invited to my dad's funeral, you would have only wanted to be there for credit and not for the condolences. Unfortunately, you could not be counted on to be courteous as you are a child in the most important role, the world knows. It's very brave of her. She's young and she does not speak publicly. There are other children in my family. I come from a huge family. I don't expect decency and compassion from the trump I want to thank the American public for the decency and compassion they have given for us. Do not feel sorry for my family. Final note on this, I just keep thinking about the khan family because they had to go through this when their son died. Can we take this moment and turn it into something positive. My faorite charity is the freedom team. It's a team for wounded veterans. I've been involved for years. If you want to get involved and make something out of all this toxicity, go check out Achilles. Okay. So, Meghan has taken the high road so I want to respond. First of all, John McCain didn't get the funeral that he wanted. He got the funeral that he deserved. He got the funeral that he earned through more than 60 years of service and sacrifice and pain for this country, something that Donald Trump knows nothing about, because for more than 70 years it's been all about trump for him. Number one. Number two, he didn't approve anything other than the plane which they could have gotten themselves. It was congress who allowed John McCain to lay in state. It was the national cathedral that allowed John McCain's mass to be held there. Number three, he also said that John McCain had not done anything for veterans, that John McCain had -- you know, that they had failed in getting choice and accountability for many decades. Lie. You pathological president, liar, liar, liar. John McCain and Bernie Sanders passed the choice and accountability act in 2014. It was signed by Barack Obama. While you were calling into question his citizenship. And it was John McCain who got the expansion of that act. In his dying days he got the expansion of that act, and it is called -- the expansion of that act is called the John S. McCain III maintaining act. Three veterans who served while you were pretending you had bone so let's remember that. Now, about your question as to Republicans, the reason they are not speaking is because they're spineless and because they're afraid of this man, because they think he is like lord valid Val mort. His ratings have just gone up 74% in South Carolina. Mike pence is in south Carolina opening up a launching for Lindsey's campaign today. Let me tell you, I have all week heard about people and seen people going on TV and people making statements about their good friend John McCain. The man they revered, John McCain. National hero, John McCain. But most of them with notable exceptions like Mitt Romney and Johnny Isaacson have been too cowardly to call out the act. The silence of the Republican party is enabling Donald Trump to cheapen the white house. The history books will reflect that. I hope that they're thinking about that. I add, every time he talks about it, we need to call it out. It's awkward for you. It's painful for you. It might be exhausting. We cannot get exhausted. We cannot get tired of being outraged by what this man is doing to the presidency of the United States. Right, right.
